NON-THESIS MASTER'S PROGRAM
Description

The Non-Thesis Master’s Program is a graduate education program designed to help individuals who have completed their undergraduate education advance their knowledge and competencies in a specific field to an advanced level, gain professional expertise, and develop their practical knowledge base. Non-thesis master’s programs consist of courses and a semester project and do not include a thesis based on scientific research. These programs are specifically designed to contribute to the professional development of working professionals and equip them with up-to-date knowledge and skills.

Program Durations

The program duration, excluding the time spent on scientific preparation, starting from the semester in which courses for the enrolled program are offered, regardless of whether registration is completed for each semester;

For non-thesis master’s programs, the standard duration is a minimum of 2 (two) semesters and a maximum of 3 (three) semesters.

Course Load

For the non-thesis master’s program;

  1. The program consists of 10 (ten) courses totaling at least 30 (thirty) local credits, along with the Research Methods and Scientific Ethics course and the term project course.
  2. Students must register for the term project course no earlier than the registration period for the second semester and submit their project report by the end of the term.
  3. The program must total at least 60 ECTS credits.
  4. The Term Project and the 3 (three) credits each, must consist of at least 7 (seven) courses from the curriculum of the student’s Department of Science or Art.

To pass a course, the grade must be at least CB (2.50) for master’s programs and at least BB (3.00) for doctoral programs.

Term Project

  1. The term project consists of 2 (two) hours of practical work per week. It carries 0 (zero) local credits and has an ECTS value of 15 (fifteen). The days and times are specified in the weekly course schedule.
  2. The term project is conducted in accordance with the principles established by the EYK at Semester Project Implementation Guidelines established by the EYK.
  3. The term project course is not offered outside of semesters and must be taken from the relevant Department/Division.
  4. The Term Project course is graded as either “Pass” or “Fail.”
Graduation Requirements

In order for a student to graduate from a non-thesis program:

They must fulfill the course, local credit, and ECTS requirements within the maximum duration defined for non-thesis master’s programs, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50/4.00, and pass the term project.

Dismissal (Failure)

Students who fail to meet the required conditions in non-thesis master’s programs by the end of 3 (three) semesters will be dismissed.

Admission of Students from Non-Thesis Master’s Programs to Thesis-Based Master’s Programs

Admission of Students from Non-Thesis Master’s Programs to Thesis-Based Master’s Programs

  1. Students enrolled in the University’s non-thesis master’s programs may apply to transfer to the thesis-based master’s programs with the same name no later than the end of the second semester (provided they meet the minimum requirements established for the relevant semester of the program to which they are applying).
  2. Students applying under this provision must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00/4.00 in the non-thesis master’s program in which they are enrolled.
  3. Quotas for students to be admitted under this program are determined based on the recommendation of the Department/Program Committee and the decision of the Executive Board.
  4. Applications must be submitted to the Department Chair in accordance with the graduate application deadlines announced in the academic calendar. Submitted applications are forwarded to the Institute by the Department Chair.
  5. Applications are evaluated and finalized by the Graduate School Executive Board (EYK), taking into account 70% of the student’s ALES score and 30% of their undergraduate GPA.
  6. Students whose transfer is approved may apply to the Department Chair within two semesters at the latest to request credit transfer for courses taken in the non-thesis master’s program. Course credit transfer is carried out based on the opinion of the Department Chair and the decision of the EYK. The student must comply with the course load completion rules specified in Article 19 of the program to which they have transferred.
  7. The duration of study in the non-thesis master’s program is included in the duration of study for the thesis-based master’s program. The student must complete the thesis within the total maximum duration specified for the thesis-based master’s program.
