International Applicants
- In order for foreign applicants to apply to programs where the language of instruction is Turkish, they must hold a C1-level TÖMER certificate issued by the TÖMER/Language Centers of state universities in Turkey or by the Yunus Emre Institute. TÖMER certificates are valid for 2 years.
Foreign nationals who have earned a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree from programs taught in Turkish at universities in Turkey are exempt from the TÖMER C1 certificate requirement. International applicants in this situation must complete their applications using e-Government graduation certificates instead of the TÖMER C1 certificate.
Application, Registration, and Document Requirements
- Applicants who are not graduates at the time of application must be listed as graduates in the YÖK system by the application deadline.
- At the time of registration, applicants must not be enrolled in any other graduate program (excluding non-thesis master’s programs).
- Graduates of universities in foreign countries must submit a diploma equivalency certificate issued by YÖK.
Grading System and Conversion Principles
- If the grading scale of the university from which you graduated is on a 4-point scale, you must enter your GPA on a 4-point scale during the application process.
- The YÖK Conversion Table is used to convert grades from the 4-point scale to the 100-point scale, and the application system performs this conversion automatically.
Foreign Language, TÖMER, and Exam Validity Periods
- The foreign language approved by the Institute’s board is English. For ÖSYM foreign language equivalencies, click here.
- The Turkish language proficiency certificate is valid for 2 years.
- The validity period for the ALES and the GRE exam—which is recognized by ÖSYM as equivalent to the ALES—is 5 years. For the conversion table used by our institute, see here.
- The validity period for YDS, e-YDS, and YÖKDİL is 5 years. For other exams recognized by ÖSYM as equivalent to the YDS, the validity periods determined by the administering institution apply, provided they do not exceed 5 years.
