Requirements for Applicants to Doctoral Programs
- Hold a bachelor’s degree and a thesis-based master’s degree (or be on track to graduate with a thesis-based master’s degree by the application deadlines). Among candidates who have completed a master’s degree without a thesis, only those whose enrollment date in the non-thesis master’s program was on or before February 6, 2013, may apply to doctoral programs.
- In the MATHEMATICS score category, have an ALES score of at least 55 that meets the requirement for the program to which you are applying, or have obtained a GRE score in the MATHEMATICS category that is equivalent to the ALES minimum score as determined by the Council of Higher Education.
- For applicants to Turkish-language doctoral programs, they must have scored at least 55 on the YDS or obtained a score equivalent to at least 55 on other foreign language exams recognized by ÖSYM as equivalent to the YDSor other foreign language exams deemed equivalent by ÖSYM.
- Applicants applying to English-language doctoral programs must have scored at least 60 on the YDS or a score equivalent to at least 60 on other foreign language exams recognized by ÖSYM as equivalent to the YDS.
The overall grade point average is calculated as follows:
Overall Grade = (0.40 × Entrance Exam Score) + (0.10 × Weighted Master’s GPA) + (0.50 × ALES Score)- The overall grade must be at least 70.
- Candidates who do not take any of the entrance exams (written/oral) are considered to have failed and will not be included in the ranking.
Requirements for Applicants to Bachelor’s-to-Ph.D. Programs
- Possession of a bachelor’s degree (or being on track to graduate with a bachelor’s degree by the application deadlines).
- In the MATHEMATICS score category, have an ALES score of at least 80 as specified for the program to which you are applying, or have obtained a GRE test score equivalent to the ALES minimum score as determined by the Council of Higher Education.
- Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00.
- For applicants applying to Turkish-language doctoral programs, have scored at least 55 on the YDS or an equivalent score on other foreign language exams recognized by ÖSYM as equivalent to the YDS.
- Applicants applying to English-language doctoral programs must have scored at least 60 on the YDS or a score equivalent to at least 60 on other foreign language exams recognized by ÖSYM as equivalent to the YDS.

The scores defined above are minimum scores; provided that the score required for application is not less than the lower limit determined by the Council of Higher Education, different minimum score values may be set for each program based on the opinion of the Departmental Board, the decision of the Institute Council, and the approval of the Senate.
