In case our students who went back to their residence addresses where they may not have necessary equipments and facilities to access computers and internet connection may not able to follow online courses and in order for them not to suffer from not being able to attend courses and any related curricular activities due to COVID-19 global outbreak, all our graduate students can request for leave of absence (The semester where the leave of absence is requested will not be included within the maximum period of study.) based on the offical document by the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK) dated March 31st, 2020 and No. 75850160-104.01.02.04-E.24625 until April 24th, 2020.
NOTE: The MSc. students whose maximum period of study ended as of the end of 2019-2020 Academic Year Fall Semester and whose graduation procedures have been going on with the periods of time in the regulation will not be able to submit petition for leave of absence request due to COVID-19 outbreak but will be given time for how long the academic and instructional activities have been postponed.

How to submit the petition for the leave of absence request?
The petitions for the leave of absence request will not be delivered in person and will be uploaded electronically through lisansustu.yildiz.edu.tr online system. To submit your request, you need to log in to the online system with your username and password, then you need to click on the message icon on the top left-hand corner of the main page and finally select "Upload the Petition for Leave of Absence Request due to COVID-19 Outbreak". Include the expression that you would like to request leave of absence for the 2019-2020 Academic Year Spring Semester in the message body and attach scanned *.pdf version of the petition you filled in with the date and you signed (Please click here for the sample petition). Please make sure that yout petition includes your request for leave of absence due to COVID-19 outbreak, your student number, your full name, your program information and contact information. The applications to be submitted after the deadline, which is April 24th, 2020, will not be accepted. Note: If you do not have the means od access to equipment necessary to get a printout of the sample petition for the leave of absence request, please simly get a plan "A4" paper and copy the ingrediants of the sample petition on it and scan the petition you have drafted with a smart phone and upload it onto the system.
The academic and instructional activities for the students who will not submit a petition for leave of absence request will be as follows:
- Ph.D. Qualifying oral exams have been postponed until June 2020. The conditions of the social life and the regulations by the government will be assessed again in June and if necessary, these exams may be carried out online. If the students who succeeded the Ph.D. Qualifying written exams during the 2019-2020 Academic Year Spring Semester request the leave absence for the so-called semester, they will only take the Ph.D. Qualifying oral exams during the 2020-2021 Academic Year Fall Semester. If the students who failed the Ph.D. Qualifying written exams during the 2019-2020 Academic Year Spring Semester request the leave absence for the so-called semester, they will take the Ph.D. Qualifying written exams again during the 2020-2021 Academic Year Fall Semester.
- The thesis proposal meeting dates of the students who have to take their Ph.D. Thesis Proposal Exams have been postponed until June. irmesi gereken öğrencilerimizin tez öneri toplantı tarihleri de Haziran ayına ertelenmiştir. - Thesis Monitoring Committee Meetings will not be held in May and have been postponed until June. The conditions of the social life and the regulations by the government will be assessed again in June and if necessary, these exams may be carried out online.
- The applications for graduation between April 10th-17th, 2020 have been cancelled and the next application period will be between May 18th-29th, 2020 and will made online through lisansustu.yildiz.edu.tr. 2020-2021 Academic Year Fall Semester Academic Calendar for Graduate Program Applications and Registrations will be updated and the MSc. students who would like to apply for graduation between May 18th-29th, 2020 will be able to graduate and apply for Ph.D. programs. The new regulations on graduation procedures will be announced following the applications for graduation.
- 2020-2021 Academic Year Fall Semester Academic Calendar for Graduate Program Applications and Registrations will be postponed and the updated calendar will be announced on our website as soon as possible.
- The time periods in the regulations for the final submissions with hard bound copy of the thesis for the students who have been previously successful in their thesis defense exams have been postponed until June. However, the relevant students may make their final submissions on the condition that they get approvals by their thesis advisors. The thesis format checks before the final submissions will be carried out by the Research Assistants at our Graduate School electronically. For this, you will need to send the *.pdf format of your thesis to be printed out in hard bound copy to the Research Assistant with whom you have successfully made an appointment electronically. The relevant research assistant will return your e-mail with the necessary corrections (if any) on the *.pdf file of your thesis after his/her format check of your thesis. Note: During this period of time, the thesis format check appointments can only be made with the research assistants at our Graduate School. Note: The ongoing graduation procedures for the students who previously applied for graduation on lisansustu.yildiz.edu.tr (thesis defense, thesis defense after extension, final thesis submission, etc.) have also been postponed until June due to COVID-19 outbreak. If the time periods for the graduation procedures postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak has been updated on lisansustu.yildiz.edu.tr online system for your ongoing graduation procedures, please ignore the reminder e-mails automatically sent by the system.
- Instead of a certificate of attendance from a conference/symposium, a letter of acceptance from a conference/symposium for the scientific work derived from the theses of the students will be deemed fulfilling the publication requirement of the students who will not have applied for a leave of absence and who are considering to make online application for graduation between May 18th-29th, 2020. If the conference/symposium has been postponed further or has been cancelled for good before the students could receive a letter of acceptance as well, on the condition that those students with a proof of application with a conference proceeding sent to a conference/symposium to be held before June 30th, 2020, they will be able to make an application for graduation. If the conference/symposium has been postponed further or cancelled for good before the students could receive a letter of acceptance, the Executive Board of Directors of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering will make decisions for those students who have sent a conference proceeding to that conference/symposium. For either case, on the online application for graduation, those students must upload a petition to the online system stating the situation and attaching a proof of Proceeding Uploaded or Proceeding Sent and the announcement or the screenshot of the fact that the confrence/symposium has been either postponed furher or cancelled for good. For the above situations to apply to to you, the original organization date of the relevant conference/symposium must have been June 30th, 2020 the latest before the conference/symposium were cancelled.
- The students who have previously been to abroad within the framework of Erasmus+ exchange program during 2019-2020 Academic Year Spring Semester and have come back to Turkey must send their waiver petitions to the Erasmus+ Program Unit for the 2019-2020 Academic Year Spring Semester including the date of arrival to Turkey. Also, those students can upload their petitions for the leave of absence request for the 20109-2020 Academic Year Spring Semester at lisansustu.yildiz.edu.tr by April 24th, 2020.
