Course Registration

 

Course Registration dates, Add-Drop and Only Add Periods are announced in the corresponding Academic Calendars.

 

The registration is online at Graduate Students Information System (GSIS): www.gsis.yildiz.edu.tr.

In order to take courses from other universities, you must apply with the form "D-1" to your department for the approval of the Institute. 

 

The details about Special Student Applications are announced during the corresponding application periods.

 

The courses with less than 5 students registered will be announced to be closed after the course registration period. Those who have selected these courses should replace them with open courses in the Only Add Period.

 

Seminar

 

Seminar course is without credit and can be taken in any course semester.

 

Seminar course is not required for Ph. D. students who registered before 2016-2017 Fall Term. Students who registered in the 2016-2017 Fall Term and later are required to take the Seminar course.

 

Advisor Proposal

 

Students must be assigned to an Advisor due the end of the 2nd Semester.

 

The Head of the Department is assigned as the default advisor to each student temporarily.

 

Students must submit their Advisor Proposals with one of the forms "D-3" , "D-4", "D-5" to the corresponding department for the approval of the Institute.

 

If a Co-Advisor is necessary, you should apply with "D-11" for the approval of your Advisor, the Head of the Department and the Institute.

 

Qualification Exam and Examination Committee

 

Students who have completed at least 8 courses (24 Credits) (Those who have registered before the Spring semester in the Academic Year 2012-2013 and after the 2016-2017 Fall Semester may complete at least 7 courses with 21 credits) with a GPA of at least 3.00 must apply for the Qualification Exam online at GSIS left menu, during the dates announced in the Academic Calendars.

 

 

Qualification Exam Committee Members are set by the Department to the Institute. 

 

 

Qualification Exam Committee performs oral and written examinations and reports the result to the Institute via the department.

 

 

Students who have failed the qualification exam are supposed to take the exam in the following semester.

 

 

Students who fail the exam twice will be disenrolled. 

 

Thesis Monitoring Committee

 

Students who have passed the qualification exam successfully are supposed to propose Thesis Monitoring Committee Members with form "D-9" to the department for the approval of the Institute. This procedure should be held within 1 month after the qualification exam.

 

Thesis Monitoring Committee is decided formally by the Institute Executive Board.

 

The Thesis Monitoring Committee consists of 3 members if no co-advisor is proposed; The Thesis Advisor, 1 Faculty Member from YTU and 1 Faculty Member from other higher education institutions. If there is a co-advisor proposed, the committee consists of 5 faculty members; 3 from YTU and 2 from other institutions.

 

 

Thesis Proposal Examinations

 

Students who have successfully passed the qualification exam are supposed to submit and present a thesis proposal consisting of the objective of the thesis, method and work plan, within 6 months after the qualification exam.
 
 
 
The thesis proposal form "D-10" must be delivered to the Committee Members 15 days before the examination.
 
 
 
Thesis Proposal Examination is held by the Committee Members and the student is supposed to present his proposal orally to the members. The Committee members sign the proposal form during the oral examination and submit it to the Institute via the department.
 
 
Thesis Monitoring Committee Periodic Evaluation
 

Students whose thesis proposals are approved are supposed to prepare periodic evaluation reports (once in each report delivery term; May-June and November-December) containing their completed and planned studies. They present their reports orally to the Thesis Monitoring Committee members.

 

Committee members submit the report evaluation with form "D-12" to the Institute via the department.

 

Reports which are not submitted in the corresponding delivery terms are considered "unsuccessful".

 

If a change in thesis subject is offered by the Thesis Monitoring Committee, it should be proposed with form "D-13" to the Institute via the department. In this case, thesis proposal submission period restarts.

 

2 consecutive or 3 separate failures in periodic reports result in thesis subject/advisor changes.

 

 

1st Submission and Thesis Committee Proposal

 

Students who have completed the above tasks are supposed to start their graduation process by applying online ( Start My Graduation Process left menu) in the required dates, in order to graduate in the planned semester. Students must obey the procedures announced in the general Graduation Calendar. Students have their own responsibility to have the submissions on time.
 
 
 
For the 1st Thesis Submission, the following documents are required to be submitted to the Institute;

 

1.     1 copy of the Thesis (spiral/paper bound)

2.     Form "D-15" with the approval of the Thesis Advisor

3.     Publication List (obtained around the Thesis studies)

            

 
Thesis Committee is proposed with form "D-16" to the department for the approval of the Institute. The Committee is assigned by the Executive Board and consists of 5 Faculty members; 3 from Thesis Monitoring Committee and 2 more Faculty members containing at least 1 from other higher education institutions.
 
 
If there is a Co-Advisor and is proposed as a committee member, Thesis Committee consists of 7 members, at least 3 of which should be from other institutions.

 

Announcement

 
Students submit the following documents to each Thesis Committee member;

 

1.   The Formal Decision of the Executive Board

2.   1 copy of the Thesis (spiral/paper bound)

3.    Publication List (around Thesis studies)

4.    Form "D-19" and "D-20"

 

and they get the form "D-17"  and "D-18" signed by each Committee member.

 
The Thesis Defense date should be decided with the Thesis Advisor. Ph.D. dissertations are held in special rooms at FBE, so you should get in to contact with  FBE (0 212 383 3105) to reserve a suitable room. The date and the room are to be announced on our website.

 

Thesis Defense

 
Thesis Defense should be performed within 30 days after each committee member has received the required documents.
 
 
Thesis examination report  "D-22" must be filled in by The Thesis Committee members during the defense and delivered to the Institute via the department together with the forms "D-19" and "D-20" which they have received before.
 
 
Students who are advised to make changes in the thesis may be given a 6 months time and are supposed to begin a new submission period.
 
 
An unsuccessful defense results in Advisor/Thesis Subject change with a formal decision of the Institute Executive Board.

 

Final Submission

 

Students who have successfully defended their thesis should prepare for the final submission with the following documents within at least 1 month after the defense.
 

1. Thesis Format Check Form (Online Appointment)

2. Final version delivery to the Committee Members (Form "D-24" )

3. 1 copy of the Thesis (Hard Cover, signed by Committee Members)

4. 2 signed copies of the Thesis Data Entry Form completed for the Council of Higher Education (YÖK)

5. 1 CD including Thesis.pdf, Abstract.pdf and Ozet.pdf with Cover Page ( "D-26" )

6. Student Information Form ( "D-27" )

 

Graduation

 

  • Students who have successfully completed the above tasks and submitted their thesis to the Institute become graduated by the Educational Board.
