Ph.D. PROGRAMS
Applicants must meet the following requirements to apply for PhD programs:
* Hold a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree with thesis (or be eligible to graduate from a master’s program with thesis by the application dates).
(Only applicants who enrolled in a non-thesis master’s program on or before 06/02/2013 are eligible to apply for PhD programs.)
* Have an ALES score (Quantitative type) not less than 55 or possess an equivalent GRE Quantitative score accepted by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) as equivalent to the minimum ALES score required for the program.
* For Turkish-taught PhD programs: Obtain at least 55 points from YDS or an equivalent score (at least 55) from another foreign language exam recognized as equivalent to YDS by ÖSYM.
* For English-taught PhD programs: Obtain at least 60 points from YDS or an equivalent score (at least 60) from another foreign language exam recognized as equivalent to YDS by ÖSYM.
The Overall Success Score is calculated as follows:
Overall Success Score = 0.40 * Entrance Exam Score + 0.10 * Master’s GPA + 0.50 * ALES Score
The minimum Overall Success Score must be 70.
Candidates who fail to attend any part of the entrance exams (written/oral) are considered unsuccessful and will not be ranked.

Ph.D. Programs (for Undergraduate Degree Holders)
Applicants must meet the following requirements to apply for Ph.D. programs directly after a bachelor’s degree:
* Hold a bachelor’s degree (or be eligible to graduate by the application dates).
* Have an ALES score (Quantitative type) not less than 80 or possess an equivalent GRE Quantitative score accepted by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) as equivalent to the minimum ALES score required for the program.
* Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00.
* For Turkish-medium Ph.D. programs: Obtain at least 55 points from YDS or an equivalent score (at least 55) from another foreign language exam recognized as equivalent to YDS by ÖSYM.
* For English-medium Ph.D. programs: Obtain at least 60 points from YDS or an equivalent score (at least 60) from another foreign language exam recognized as equivalent to YDS by ÖSYM.

The above-mentioned scores represent minimum requirements. However, for each program, different minimum score thresholds may be determined by the recommendation of the Departmental Board, the decision of the Institute Council, and the approval of the Senate, provided that they are not lower than the minimum set by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
